"It's nothing until it's something. And it may not be anything."
I was recently inspired by a coaching given by Kris Carr, a New York Times best-selling author and wellness activist. On her subscription platform, Inner Circle Wellness, she shared a video titled “Thriving in Hardship.” We all have periods of time when life becomes a little (or quite) overwhelming. I know I went through a tough year last year working night shifts; basically always jetlagged, sleep-deprived, stressed, and worried about something. I had countless imaginary conversations in my mind with people who criticized me and always expected the next bad thing to happen. And sometimes it did, but sometimes it didn’t. Either way, I lost peace of mind and energy (which I didn’t have in the first place). And this is where Kris Carr’s coaching really hit home when she said, “It's nothing until it's something. And it may not be anything." For some reason I found this mantra very soothing. It gives you “permission” to relax and to “cross that bridge” when you get there.

Similarly, years ago, I watched a video by Mel Robbins (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9_OI9Ij0g4), who shared a mindset trick that I actually tried out and found effective many times. She says: “If you worry, if you’re anxious, if constant rumination traps you in your mind, if you’re constantly thinking about what you need to do, if you’re worried about making a mistake, if you have analysis paralysis,” ask yourself: What if it all works out? So, instead of assuming the worst, assume the best. What a difference it would make, if, instead of believing we’re cursed and something bad is bound to happen, what if we actually dared to leave the door ajar, if only barely?

Lastly, there is another saying I found calming and profound although it sounds so simple. “Gefahr ist real. Angst ist freiwillig. Sorgen sind sinnlos” (Karin Kuschik, 50 Sätze, die das Leben leichter machen, S. 119). - Danger is real. Fear is optional. Worrying is pointless. Both fear and worries are constructs of our own minds and dark thoughts don’t necessarily reflect the outer world. So how about we try this? To quote the late Louise Hay (you see, there are many women who have inspired and helped me over the years), know that “It’s just a thought, and a thought can be changed.” Then remind yourself that “It's nothing until it's something. And it may not be anything." Lastly, ask yourself, “What if it all works out?” See how that feels.
Have a good week ❤️ Tati
